The Relational Perception and Thinking Lab, in the Cognitive Division of the Department of Psychology, investigates the representation and processing of relations in perception and cognition.

How can neural architectures (brains or artificial neural networks) generate, represent, and manipulate relational structures? How does the human mind's solution to this problem manifest itself in observable behavior?

We investigate these issues both empirically, conducting experiments with human subjects, and computationally, using neural modeling architectures that can represent and manipulate relational (i.e., symbolic) structures. This site provides more detailed information about recent, on-going and future work, as well as information about lab members, links to related laboratories and pdf files of various of our papers. The site is perpetually under construction, but we hope to eventually include links to the source code for various of our computational models.
